Lily

Breed: Crossbreed
Age: Approx 2 yrs
Sex: Female

Lily aka, Lily the Love Sponge, is likely a Lurcher x Doberman and absolutely adores people. When you meet her it won’t be long before she’s nuzzling up to you asking for a cuddle and some fuss.

She came to us from the Pound with no history and not in great shape–she was very skinny with wounds on her legs but she’s doing very well now.

She’s currently in foster to see how she is in a home. They’ve reported that it’s clear she’s lived in a home environment before, she’s very relaxed, well-mannered, house trained and is clearly aware of her size and surroundings. She does help herself to the sofa and arm chair, but gets down without a fuss when told to. When it was bed time the first night she settled very quickly, this may have been helped by the fact that she’d already had three day trips to the foster family’s home so was used to them and the house.

She walks beautifully on her lead and is very engaged with her handler, we think she’d make a great running partner. She will also let you put a car seat harness on with no fuss. She does currently have a bit of car sickness, but is enjoying lots of short trips to exciting local places to help her get over her anxiety. Her foster family have reported that she’s quickly getting used to travelling and has even had a few naps whilst on the move.

She can be reactive to other dogs when out and about, but her foster family are currently using the engage/disengage game with her to overcome this and associate dogs with positive, yummy treats. This has been going well so far and she’s now been on walks with three other dogs (not at the same time). When in her new home it will be important to continue this process and allow her to build trust and confidence with you so she carries on making positive progress. It’s felt that she hasn’t been socialised properly in her past life and would benefit from her forever family helping her to continue exploring the world and introducing her to other calm, confident dogs to continue her progress.

She’s incredibly treat oriented, both inside and outside the house, is a quick learner, and is very obedient and eager to please her humans. This combined with her young age makes her very easy to train. A squeaky ball is also a sure fire way to get her attention and distract her from anything she shouldn’t be focused on.

She loves toys, particularly playing fetch or tug of war. Stuffed toys don’t tend to last long around Lily, but she does love a good session of toy dismemberment.

She hasn’t shown signs of aggression with any of the staff, volunteers or foster family and you can take her food and toys away from her without a problem.

She can’t live with cats or small furries, we do think she could potentially live with an older, calm, even-tempered dog once she’s had a few introductions and has got to know them.

As a young, athletic dog, Lily would thrive in an active home with lots of love and attention, mental and physical stimulation and a confident leader who can continue her training and socialisation.

If you can offer Lily her forever home you’ll be rewarded with endless love and affection and an incredibly loyal companion.
